We’re already more than a week into August, and you know what that means: fall is right around the corner. But no need to despair! There are plenty more outdoor events, festivals, and parties in New England to celebrate the end of the hot summer months. Here are a few of our favorite can’t-miss events coming up to wind the summer down.
The Brimfield Antiques show is one of the biggest and most famous antiques and flea markets in New England, and it turns 60 years old this year! Comprised of over 20 individual and separate shows, this massive mile-long market hosts more than 5,000 dealers selling everything from vintage clothing, antique furniture, collectibles, tools, and much much more. The first of the summer took place from July 9th to the 14th, and the next will be September 3rd to the 8th. Pack up your group, and plan your trip! You’ll want to set aside plenty of time to peruse the treasures.
The Marshfield Fair takes place this year from August 16th to the 25th. First held in 1867, the Marshfield Fair is as old as the state of Nebraska, the United State’s ownership of Alaska, and the country’s first school of dentistry, opened by Harvard. The fair has not changed much since, making it one of the most traditional fairs in New England. Visit Marshfield Fairgrounds for agricultural and horticultural displays and demonstrations, arts and crafts, rides, livestock contests, and even a demolition derby.
If you can’t make the Marshfield Fair, or just can’t get enough of agriculture, the Champlain Valley Fair takes place from August 23rd to September 1st in Essex Junction, Vermont. Visit for a chance to see local farmers show off their best livestock and produce, visit the carnival rides, and stuff your tummies with everything from jalapeno poppers to deep-fried cheesecake. This is Vermont’s biggest event, so prepare yourself for exhibits, vendors, rides, games, and live entertainment galore!
